I was just introduced to speed flying via a banff movie and I got way excited. How do I get started? What do I need to buy? How do I get training?

Where in USA are you as there are very few places that are able to teach it over there - The guys at Point of the Mountain, Utah - http://www.superflyinc.com is one & the other is Jim Slaton's Ground Launching Center at Lake Isabella, California http://www.speedflyingsports.com but he doesnt teach with skis - they teach Ground launching - where you foot launch, fly the canopy, then land)
It helps too, if you have paragliding or skydiving experience and you are an expert skier.

Yeah, I actually live in Utah and I've seen the people paragliding at point of the mountain. I didn't know they did speed flying, too. I'll have to check it out. I don't have any skydiving experience, but I can hold my own skiing. I'll be sure to contact the people at superfly. Do you recommend a few freefalls or could I learn without?

    Best thing to do

I would say no, you would need more than a few freefalls to be any good. Paragliding and Skydiving experience is recommended as you already would have some of the canopy control skills.

It is still possible to learn without but takes longer.

Best thing would be to contact SuperFly and chat with the guys there first and see what they say...

If you haven't already, I would also read the safety guidelines we have posted on the website - see the Guidelines index or click --> http://speed-flying.com/speedflying-safety-guidelines
