How much wind is too much to fly ?

What is your optimum wind range for size of wing you are flying ?

Please include Wing details/size and your weight.

How much wind is possible to launch?

Basically it is hard to tell in general how much wind will be the limit or the optimum.

It depends on your skills, on the site you want to fly and how much weight you will put on how many square meters.

Generally you can handle more headwind than side wind and more side wind than downwind.

The place you want to fly will add an other factor. If you have a nice slope without too many obstacles it is even possible to launch with 25-35 km/h downwind. Just kite with the wing and as soon as you get a good speed you can start to drive more and more down the hill. Your speed will be much faster, the wing will start to glide much later and the crashes are much more violent.

Some downwind can be good if you have a big wing and a steep slope and you plan to ski as much as possible. The downwind will make you glide less and you will stay closer to the ground.

If there will be only 10m for take off before you will drop into a 30m cliff it is good to have some headwind or at least zero.

With headwind everything will be slower and more controlled. Here the limit will be just before you will stop to fly forward. (40-70km/h) For a beginner It will be maybe 20km/h

    Cheers!
