    I've started a new web site with the aim of promoting an attempt to speedfly the Everest face. This web site is an invitation to the speedflying community to join us in the planning and documentation of an attempt to speedfly down the greatest mountain in the world. One day one of us will have the courage, the resources and the perfect amount of luck balanced with the great skills he or she needs to do it.

    Just found this DVD which may be of interest for this project ?

    Flying Over Everest - follows the antics and adventures of the late Angelo D’Arrigo and his efforts to fly a hang glider over the summit of Mt Everest. More than simply a documentation of the event itself, the film is a fascinating insight into Angelo’s preparations for the flight and records his time spent testing both himself and his equipment in wind tunnels and hypobaric chambers with the Italian Airforce.

    In October 2008, be amongst the first to enter the international record books by being part of the most fabulous skydiving adventure in the world.
    The jump dates in Nepal cheat the 200mph jet stream that roars across Everest's summit, and the Drop Zone (DZ) is the highest in the world at 12,350ft.

    Everest Skydive draws upon the knowledge and skills of an unusual group of skydivers, some of who are also Everest mountaineers. By drawing on detailed knowledge of the geographical area of Mt Everest, the surrounding Sherpa lands, and skills learnt in both disciplines the adventure has been brought to fruition after two years of meticulous planning and preparation.

    Update to post:
    After reading the pdf info document found on the website
    The opening altitudes for their main parachute will be between 16,000ft and 18,000ft AMSL.
    The main landing area (DZ) is at 12,350ft AMSL.
    These altitudes demand large main parachutes of 300 - 400 sq ft which are around 27m² - 37m²

    Three skydivers made a record-breaking skydive on Sunday (5th Oct 2008) by jumping over the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, in Nepal.

    Attempt to ski down Everest...
    Not quiet speed riding but the guys were using parachute to slow down and control decent speed.

    Good to see a few options there now. I'm heading out to Nepal early next year - hoping to get some canopy time in.

    See that a new Everest Skydive operation has launched by a company called Captive Adventure.
